Legislative Position

NDSOS believes that the small/rural public schools play a vital role in educating North Dakota’s youth and their continuation should be determined by the communities that support them.

THEREFORE any the changing of school district boundaries is a matter for local determination. Any legislation providing for school district boundary changes or school closings based solely on reasons of location, size, or level of grade offerings will be opposed.

NDSOS supports a transportation funding system, outside of the per pupil payment monies, relating to actual operational costs.

THEREFORE all transportation costs, including special and career/technical education, should continue to be funded, and districts should be reimbursed for this educational cost at the same level as all other educational expenses.  (i.e. if the level of state support for education is targeted for 70%, Transportation should be 70%)
